The Backstory

Northwoods Associates was founded by Kelly Masterson in 2020 with the idea of bringing his years of experience to an underserved community of small local contractors and homeowners, desperately needing resources often reserved for only the largest corporations. Kelly was born and raised in this industry, mostly as part of Masterson Pools & Spas and Masterson Enterprises, both founded by his father. During his long tenure at MPS and ME, Kelly was heavily involved in all aspects of residential outdoor construction. While those businesses largely revolved around the construction, renovation, service and maintenance of thousands of swimming pools over the years; there was more to them then just pools. The pool business has evolved enormously from the early days of just building a pool with a 3 foot sidewalk around it in the middle your backyard, like they often did in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Today’s backyard retreats require careful planning and execution. Kelly lived and worked through the evolution of the industry and has learned a lot long the way, often the hard way. MPS and ME, under Kelly’s leadership, redefined the North Jersey backyard industry in many ways over the years, leading to rise of the experiential norm that we see today. In addition to all phases of vinyl and concrete (gunite) pool work, Kelly was also heavily involved in site development, retaining walls, excavation, drainage, hardscape and commercial snow removal to name a few.
